Okay, all of you already know I can't shoot a pistol. Fairly good with a rifle. Never hunted anything. Today I remembered a story told me long ago by a guy from the Ohio National Guard who worked the National Rifle Competition up at Camp Perry in Ohio.

I asked him (and you guys tell me if this is true!) who the best shots were with a rifle. He said, without hesitation: "Russian Mink and Sable hunters." I asked him why.

"They have to lay in the snow, and shoot a weasel scooting across the snow at ten miles an hour. And they have to hit it in the eye, or the pelt is worthless."

Okay, I have never hunted. So I didn't know that is how they got Sable. I thought they trapped them back in the day, and raised them in cages nowadays. He told me that those guys could shoot a squirrel in the eye from the back of a moving truck.

So I am asking you Hunters out there...was I as gullible fifty years ago as I am now? Or did they really hunt like that. If so, is that "good shooting"?

And has anybody in RP...done that kind of shooting of something moving fast and low to the ground. Oh, I guess that last sentence is going to get me some comments from Snipers. Let's limit it to animals, please.

Probably not the norm, but it wouldn't surprise me that certain individuals could do it.

Thing is with shooting if you expect to hit your target you have to practice practice practice and practice some more. Aim Small. Miss Small.

I know you said limit it to animals but I can't...My wifes grandfather took a $100 bet that he could strike a match at 100 yds with a .22 short and iron sights...damn if he didn't do it...never missed an animal that he was hunting whether it be a running squirrel, deer, rabbir or raccoon.

That’s a great story. You didn’t violate the people rule that made me smile
