SGT (Join to see) Every year I have to review our recommendations for new PCs and publish it for our folks looking to buy new computers. They always ask why they have to keep buying new computers. Funny that people will buy a new car every five years despite the car they are replacing still running fine, but won't replace a computer despite the current machine not being able to keep up with modern technology.

My Desktop is a work in progress, I regularly upgrade at least one main element of my system; meaning CPU, Memory, Mother-board. The left over part is then reassembled; and become a server for my house; more often than not a give-away to some one who wants a newer computer.

PO3 Jerry Webb - Fair. I'm still having a hard time justifying another desktop - unless I do some type of hot-swap config with it and a laptop.

SGT (Join to see) - This how to build a Home-Server using parts recouped from upgrading hardware configurations. Another often overlooked is the Raspberry Pi...less than $50, and it also allows some very good coding to done at the users discretion...and a great way for kids to get exposed to coding.

You forgot one important thing; the simplest computer is comprised of 1. Motherboard with CPU installed, 2. Memory installed, 3. Display of some sort, usually a monitor, and 4. Keyboard. With this provided power gives you a basic computer and shows the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).
