Nothing new, when I was a squadron commander in the 80s I had enlisted in my squadron getting food stamps. Sad, yes, but also a fact of life.

This is nothing new. GEN Vuono was visiting Ft Ord in the 1980s and was running one morning when he saw a Soldier coming out of a tent at the travel camp. He stopped and talked with him. The area around Ord was too expensive for housing the Soldier and his family, so they lived at the travel camp. Within a year, more housing was built at Ord.
