How often is Drill and Ceromonies/Military Customs and Courtesies taught at your unit?

<p>I was an instructor at RSP for new recruits and we taught Drill & Ceromonies/Military Customs and Courtesies every month. That was also being that we were teaching new recruits. </p><p> </p><p>I have visited units where some personnel could not march properly or also didn't understand common customs and courtesies. I personally think that units should do a refresher course of training at least once a quarter for familiarization on Drill and Ceromonies and Military Customs and Courtesies.</p><p><font color="#000000" size="3" face="Times New Roman">

Drill.... and ceremonies? What is this black magic you speak of? Is that some new school or something?

I wish it was a new school or something so it could be an excuse to why some soldiers don't know, but unfortunately it is. Some just seem to lose focus on standard military knowledge.

Honestly, I think it just hasn't mattered for over a decade, so it makes sense that it wouldn't be a priority now..

That is understandable. When preparing to do a ceromonial march or something, it seems we are having to retrain soldiers on how to march.

It's still taught in the TRADOC environment, but none of the three units I was assigned to ever put much emphasis on it. It was assumed that once you arrived at the unit you already knew what to do. The only exception is when a soldier was preparing for WLC. Then the platoon would get together and give the soldier being sent an opportunity to learn how to march a group.

With dual wars being conducted and focused on for much of the past decade, this is something that has been lost for garrison standards. I would like to think some are doing it, but the reality is that probably most units are not and no one even got it on their radar that it needs to have a a re-energized focus placed on it to get back to basics for all Soldiers, juniors and NCOs alike.

I agree. We recently got a new CPT and he was addessing one of our soldiers. The soldier was just standing around talking to him like they were buddies. That soldier was corrected, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
