In an extraordinary move, Tennessee's Republican-led House voted Thursday to expel two of three Democratic lawmakers who recently led a raucous protest from the House floor calling for gun law reforms.
Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson were both removed from the body with votes falling along party lines, in a disciplinary measure that's only been used twice since the 1800s. The votes were 72 - 25 and 69 - 26 respectively. Together, they represent a combined constituency of about 130,000 people.
Rep. Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, who represents about 70,000 Tenneseans, escaped the same fate by a single vote, with a final count of 65 - 30.
Following the failed vote, Johnson was asked by reporters if she thought there was a reason she'd had a different outcome. "I'll answer your question," she said. "It might have to do with the color of our skin."
Both Jones and Pearson are Black and Johnson is white.
The expelled lawmakers conceded they didn't follow decorum by walking on the floor — what is called the well — and speaking without being formally recognized.

..."Expulsions in the Tennessee general assembly are rare.
In 2019, lawmakers faced pressure to expel the former Republican representative David Byrd, after he faced accusations of sexual misconduct dating to when he was a high school basketball coach three decades before.
Republicans declined to take action, pointing out that he was re-elected as the allegations surfaced. Byrd retired last year.
In 2022, the state senate expelled a Democrat, Katrina Robinson, after she was convicted of using about $3,400 in federal grant money on wedding expenses instead of her nursing school.
Before that case, state lawmakers last ousted a house member in 2016, voting 70-2 to remove the Republican Jeremy Durham after an investigation detailed allegations of improper sexual contact with at least 22 women in four years in office.
Following the votes, the county commissions in their districts will get to pick replacements to serve until special elections could be held. The Democratic members expelled would remain eligible to run in those contests."

Yada, yada, yada ... Sure, it was race, that's why they were tossed out. It couldn't have been because those two took turns on the bullhorn shouting and leading the protestors (video below)... naw .. it's because they were Black.
The left only accuses their opponents of being racist in days that end in "y".

Oh, that's why they were tossed out ... for speaking without being recognized. I thought it might be by using a bullhorn to lead an unruly mob. Glad to discover it was for not "being formally recognized".

@PV2 Larry Sellnow - So care to point out when a Republican state or federal elected official went into the legislative chamber and used a bullhorn to 'rally the troops'?
I know --- They just did it outside of Trump's hearing! Yes, and many different politicians have done so IN PUBLIC and not in the legislative chamber.
But, that doesn't matter because they are Corruptocrats and can do no wrong according to folks like you.
It's a day that ends in 'y', so I'm surprised you didn't throw out the Corruptocrat's favorite line at me.
