John Blyth was the pilot of Spitfire 944 in which he performed a successful crash landing in 1944. A nice short film documenting some World War Two aviation history. The landing was caught on film by the squadron’s flight surgeon and years later was shown to John when he was 83 years old. He had never seen the flight film footage until this time and he was really thrilled to finally see it after all these years.

My uncle flew photo recon over Germany before the US entered the war. He flew unmarked Spitfires and was thus officially a spy and would have been executed if captured

We had one uncle on Iwo with 5th, the other fixing planes at Cherry Point. Nice history in your family.
