As in many other hospitals, the number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in Bradford Royal Infirmary is sharply rising. About half of them had chosen not to be vaccinated, says Dr John Wright - which many now deeply regret.
"I was offered the vaccine, but I was arrogant," says Faisal Bashir, a super-fit 54-year-old.
"I was going to the gym, cycling, walking and running. Given that I was strong and healthy I didn't think I needed it. That also meant that if it turned out not to be safe I wouldn't have taken any risks.
"But the truth was that I couldn't avoid the virus. It still got me. I don't know how or where."
Faisal, who was discharged on Wednesday after a week in hospital receiving oxygen, is keen to warn others not to make his mistake.
"What I've experienced in hospital - the care and expertise - humbles me," he says.
"People are filling the hospitals by taking chances and it's wrong. I feel terrible. I feel so bad about it and I hope by speaking out it helps others avoid this."

This virus is unpredictable. I have friends who died who were relatively young and healthy. I have a friend in her twenties who got it and has had chronic health issues related to COVID ever since. Several of my 6-8 graders have had it during last school years. One was hospitalized. She told me she thought she was going to die. When she spoke to the class her experience, she put the fear of God into them. That was one class that I didn't have to constantly monitor masking, social distancing, and hand washing.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth: "I know of 8 people personally that were fully vaccinated with the jnJ or Pfizer and have caught COVID...one of which died yesterday from it...SOOOOO what good is the vaccine really! We are just now seeing the efficacy of the vaccine and IMHO it ain't worth squat other than saying you had it. Either that or it doesn't last long."
So are you now completely anti-vax since not one vaccine is 100% in preventing the disease it's made to protect against? You can get the measles even if you're vaccinated, it's just less likely. You can get the flu if you're vaccinated, etc, etc. So your attempt at that "logic' doesn't make much sense at all.
The majority of people who are being hospitalized with covid are UNVACCINATED. Hmm imagine that.
No one said you can't get covid if you're vaccinated. It will lessen the severity of symptoms. Also, what was their health status? I mean c'mon man.

At this point, if the people that refused to get vaccinated get sick, I feel they should stay at home and not put the burden of their choice on the health care community.

That's what we said about anti-maskers last spring... I wonder what will be the next battle cry.
