Lt Col Charlie Brown Excellent share, Colonel. He found his calling to be an educator much earlier in life than I did! What this proves is it's now where you come from, it's where you want to go in life. I have a poster in my classroom with that and I mention to my students often.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - You got that right about the quote. That would be a good one for the classroom.

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - We aren't allowed to put anything on the windows. They have some kind of film on them! My classroom walls are running out of space thanks to you, Rick!

Good for him.

I have reservations about his claim of being in Vietnam in 1964 and conducting search and destroy missions though. But that is for another day.

Search and Destroy operations began in 1964, before U.S. ground forces were committed. [Global Security GWDG Research Report]

What the search results indicate is that the terms "clearing," "securing," and "search and destroy" were adopted in 1964 for use by military and civilian agencies involved in pacification GWDG Research Report. These early operations in 1964 were aimed at locating North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong main force units in and around their base areas to attack them.

The Search and Destroy strategy became much more prominent and widespread after the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution in August 1964 and particularly after General William Westmoreland began to execute the tactic less than a year after the resolution's passage Brigham Young University, which would have been in 1965 when large-scale U.S. ground forces were deployed.

While Search and Destroy operations did technically begin in 1964, they were in their early stages that year, and the large-scale implementation of thousands of such missions came in the subsequent years, particularly 1965-1968.

SPC Jeff Daley, PhD Who led these missions? Was this guy an advisor? Rank wise, probably not. Were Marine units assigned there in 1964? The first Marine units waded ashore in 1965.

Those are the only reasons I raised the question.

That PTSD Can Be A Real "Ditch", I Have A Good Friend Whom I've Mentioned Here Before ,Tom Croff., Whom I Met In The 7th Grade Homeroom. Tom Did 2 Tours In Vietnam With The ARMY'S 101st Airborne & Was Injured In Combat Both Times, To This Day He Still Has Problems With PTSD, He's Never Been Able To Escape It, And That Was Back In Mid 1970's
