Summer is the perfect time to re-calibrate what really matters. I recommend you watch each of these films, and at conclusion, ask yourself what you would do in a similar situation.
This list is to help you look inside yourself, the most important and often overlooked place for leaders to learn and grow. Pay attention to the emotional charge that the characters in these films give you. Then take the time to think about your own behavior patterns and how you would respond in a similar situation.
While logic will get you far along on your path to being a successful entrepreneur, it is understanding your emotions that really drives the engine of possibilities, and keeps you going when the going is rough.
These movies, some well known, others off the beaten track, are in no particular order of best to good. They are here for you to pick from and see what makes you tick at your core.
I believe we all need to "clear the past to free the future." Each of us develops a very specific road map to success. Watch others who faced big business or the power of the government and would not back down. And think about your own life, challenges and opportunities and how you move forward.
These films give us an opportunity to put ourselves in their situations while sitting with a cold beer on a hot night and answering the question: what would I have done or what will I do if the time comes to speak out and stand up?

For moral and ethical issues, A Few Good Men.
For comedy that you can relate to your subordinates I would include Barbershop, Friday, Major Payne and Night at the Roxbury. Stupid yes; being able to add movie quotes to situations: priceless!

If TV shows were included on this list, Band Of Brothers would be right up there.

Keep in mind this is written by a civil for a civ. While we can name a laundry list of movies that show what we know as true leadership i.e. We Were Soldiers. However there are good movies that have no military relevance that can be relevant in our positions. A good example is Remember the Titans or Captain Phillips. I learned in my career a good leader is always looking for good examples of leadership no matter the situation. Think about that the next time you are having dinner out. See who the real leaders are working in that restaurant. -Lunchbix out

Gardens of Stone. If you want to see your heart be ripped out of your chest there you go. It's timeless and very accurate of the climate of youth vs older troops wanting to save the youth from the scars of battle.

SPC Tom Maddox - I was going to put a clip of it from Youtube on here. I just can't. I really cannot look at that movie ever again. At the same time, I don't watch any war movies really. Didn't understand why until I came home. I've never seen Flags of our fathers. American Sniper, or anything else. O dark 30 was so dull, boring, and anti-climatic it reminded me of my sex life in the Stan; not happening, boring, anti-climatic, and a bad dream.

The "Bear" SGM was great, James Earl Jones. A good plot too, that fit the era.
