Cameron Kinley, a recent graduate of the US Naval Academy and top football recruit, won’t be able to defer his commission and play in the NFL, the Navy has announced.
The undrafted free agent corner back expressed his dismay on Monday, saying the decision had crushed his “childhood dream” of going pro then serving in the Navy.
“I have spent the past week processing my motions, as it is very difficult to have been this close to achieving a childhood dream and having it taken away from me.”

I'm sorry, but if he entered the academy thinking it was an automatic out to play pro football, he's mistaken. LT Roger Staubach graduated in 1965, commissioned as an ENS in Supply (due to colorblindness discovered his junior year), immediately went to Vietnam, and then returned to the States. After he fulfilled his obligation in 1969 he went to the Dallas Cowboys. Why should Kinley be different?

I trust he understood the commitment of serving upon graduation. Hopefully, like others, he can play pro ball after his military commitment.
