Russia restricts smartphone usage for active duty military. We should take a close look at this and quite frankly consider it ourselves (sorry to anyone who is still active duty).
1) They are right, these things are a huge security threat. Want to know where a unit is, find out where a unit member's phone is...
2) If Russia has some concerns here it is likely because they know what their own capabilities are and as such we should sure as heck be worried about this threat vector.

This makes sense at so many levels. With the right app you can survey an area and filter intended targets from your iPhone. Track subscribers and their activity, view attached devices (activity trackers, iwatch, Bluetooth devices, etc)

Maybe while deployed but not on base. That would be absurd.

SSG (Join to see) Yeah, it is mostly deployments I'm worried about. I'd also argue such things cannot be allowed anywhere near sensitive information or conversations due to the ability for them to be compromised and each one having a camera and microphone that have the potential to be remotely and unknowingly activated.

I was talking to a guy who does intel for the USAF and he said they can’t bring anything in or out of the room they work in and they could go to prison if they bring anything in.

SSG (Join to see) - He likely works in a SCIF or similar. When I did, we here not allowed to bring in cameras or computer disks. That was way before smartphones. Unfortunately in my admittedly dated experience most briefings don't happen in such facilities.
