When Two A-10 Pilots Saved the Lives of 6 Marines

Often times the USAF gets a ration of Sh** from the Army and Marines because they are air support, not huge taxis... It's when the going gets tough on the ground that the USAF comes to to the rescue and provides a huge boost in armament when they fly in with their A10 Warthogs Close Air Support Armament and change a bad situation into a good one for the ground troops... This short illustration is indicative of this kind of close air support for six Marines who were about to be annihilated by our enemies... but were saved to fight another day...

The A-10 can carry up to ten Maverick air-to-surface missiles. The Raytheon Maverick AGM-65 missile uses a variety of guidance systems, including imaging infrared guidance and warheads, which include a high-penetration, 57kg conical-shaped charge warhead.
That's a lot of power and in this particular case there were two A10s ordered to assist and that they did!
I guess you can tell that I am all USAF 1961-1965...

Sgt (Join to see) Go Air Force! I hope they received special commendations for this. OOHRAH Marines for holding your ground and not surrendering. One again proving that even though the branches pick at each other when push comes to shove we are one!

Thanks SGT Kerry Harkins. I look at the military much like a coach looks at his bench. Not all of them are quarterbacks, or blockers, or kickers... but each of them has practiced the skills that often win the "game of the day". I am partial to the USAF because I simply LOVE their equipment. My cousin piloted the Delta Daggers over the Mekong Delta in the early '60's and his son was the squadron Commander of the Warthogs and was the first to land at the Baghdad airport as his buddies flew low and loud in his support before following his lead and taking that airport. I was VP of the Straubel Chapter (Detroit) of the Air Force Association over 40 years ago. My dad was a Navy pilot during WWII, we watched "Victory at Sea" each Sunday after returning from church. The Seals are simply the badest guys at any party. I've always considered the Marines as a special part of the Navy, with the best-looking uniforms of all. I just happened to get drafted, nothing special, just trained and serving wherever they put me.
I am proud of all of you guys and gals. Very passionate to be a friend and contact to all of you. I can be a good coach to you in real estate finance, retirement strategies and credit polishing. I've authored books on each of the subjects as well as teaching them and guest lecturing at Michigan State Univ. and Lansing Community College, years ago.

Excellent post. Thanks for sharing this Brother Kerry. I was slightly confused when I saw a SrA on deployment with us in Afghanistan. He did an excellent job. Not sure what his role was, but he did an excellent job. I know this is an odd question, but does the Air Force deal with JTAC?
