I think elephants are smarter than we give them credit for. The matriarch of the herd leads the community.

The matriarch can’t control everything, but she must have some brain power to lead the herd to a watering spot 80 miles away based on her memory. She constantly looks for food and water for her herd. CSM Charles Hayden
