Has RallyPoint replaced the barracks lawyer?

They used to tell young soldiers not to believe everything that they are told by that one specialist in the billets. Should there be some kind of warning for Rallypoint similar to this? Is there the possibility that a young SM may take to heart a bit of horrible advice given on RP and run with it and lead themselves into trouble?

Sgt. Gunderson, I think it all depends on the amount of maturity that specific SM has. I always tell SM to do multiple research from different sources just be sure.

I don't think Rally point specifically, mainly because of the vast amount of information from multiple sources. I do think many of the "groups" on social media sites like Facebook unfortunately have. Used wisely it can be a good tool to gain information but it is important that members do research instead of assuming someone is correct.

We call them sea lawyers and every branch has them. lol. Good point. Not all advice given here is bad and is offered by people who have experienced a similar situation being discussed. We have to be careful of which advice to follow because opinions are like a-holes, everybody's got one.

PO1 Rick Serviss Sea Lawyers are an important part of the Navy Service. A time honored tradition they always lead off with "I am no Lawyer but I think ....." so with that disclaimer they have fulfilled of of King Neptune's requirements for appearing in front of his court. After all there is a reason it is called Non-Judicial Punishment.
