On April 15, 1755, Samuel Johnson's "A Dictionary of the English Language" was published in London. Many of his entries were quite funny and witty. One of my favorites was his definition of oats.
"oats: 'A grain, which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland supports the people.'"
