I would get rid of the promotion board system in favor of something more objective like the testing that the USAF has. There is a lot of favoritism that takes place before and during promotion boards and it just perpetuates a kind of good ol' boy system. I think that an impartial system that measures your knowledge and potential without any personal bias would promote only those that should be promoted instead of the guys and gals that are just really good at making friends.

Being a bad tester is just a way of saying that you fail to be able to demonstrate the appropriate knowledge when put into a particular situation in which case you shouldn't be promoted anyways. If you are unable to, under a minimally stressful situation, demonstrate the appropriate knowledge for promotion, then who is to say that you won't fail to perform under the potential stress associated with performing your duties in a wartime situation. Argument lost. Thanks for playing. Bad tester=Not fit to lead in military.

Exactly!!! If you know something about your job you should be able to get promoted. In my prior service days I had to take two individual tests to make E3, one test for E4, three tests for E5, and one for E6. I'm not the best tester nor did I know everything about my job, but I obviously knew enough to get promoted and competent enough to train my troops OUR career field.

MSG (Join to see) - I hope what he means is guys that have no problem passing the PT test but have 20 lbs of muscle that put them in the over weight category, which I would agree is absurd.

I had to be taped every time. My nephew who is an airborne instructor also has to be taped every time.
