I recommend anyone planning to separate this year to start compiling your medical, dental and personnel records together. Consider going to the local VA and seek guidance on things to do. Keep your life insurance for family. You can add or subtract names later. You CANNOT beat the cost anywhere. Keep in mind you cannot add it later. The VA recently began offering it, but I am not certain. USAA is a good insurance company for car etc. Be sure and get all of your dental and medical needs taken care of before separation. Remember to enroll in VA after separation for service connected disabilities. Make copies of your discharge and DD214. If you're planning to get married or wedding vow renewal you are entitled to use the base chapels free of charge. Burial benefits are provided for every honorably discharged Veteran and spouse. The V,A does not pay for funerals, just partial reimbursement. I worked in the VA for 11 years as well as being a Vet. It's a great place to work with good benefits. I hope this helps.
