We rotorheads didn't see many sailors during VN except our flight surgeon and the corpsmen who flew with us and were like part of the crew. Besides the bravery of the Corpsman, the one thing that sticks in my mind is the gift the crew of the Sanctuary gave us every time we dropped wounded aboard. Of course, the crew was always busy pulling the wounded from the aircraft, but there was always another crewman who ran up to the crew chief's door with a cold six pack of soda, one can for each person in the crew. No soda ever tasted so sweet, or was more appreciated.

I feel a deep sense of sympathy for the veterans who are mentally stuck in the Vietnam War. Our nation failed to make a bridge for them to cross as they reintegrated into society.
