Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the December 23rd edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Cassini Looks Out from Saturn." This photo was first published in April 2017 while Cassini was still in orbit around Saturn. We are looking out over Saturn's North Pole. I could not deduce which of Saturn's 83 moons appears closest to us. Going out from Saturn, the first dark expanse is the Cassini Division separating the B (inner) and A (outer) rings. In the A ring, the next dark area is likely the Encke Gap produced by the shepherd moon Pan (discovered in 1990). Heading out further, I suspect we see both Janus and Epimetheus and Saturn's G ring.
To bad they didn't label things for us so we wouldn't have to guess. Regardless, it is a spectacular photograph.
