My wife and I went on a summer mission to Chiang Mei, Thailand, in 2000. We crossed into Burma where we went to a Karin soldier camp. It reminded me a lot of Vietnam. Those folks were tough as nails and harassed constantly by the Myanmar government.

I had to come back as I contracted a nasty campylobacter gut infection and had to be treated back in Hawaii. My wife wound up staying for nearly a year to work with Karin children and sometimes went on patrols as a medic. She taught HS art and girls' PE and was very adept at treating wounds with minimal materials. . . .

While there, she got to know Dave Eubank the guy in "Free Burma Rangers" very well. More recently, he and his family went to Syria to help.
