Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the June 23rd edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Spiral Galaxy NGC 6744." This celestial jewel box is found in the southern constellation of Pavo, and lies 30 million light years from Earth. You'll need a small telescope to see it, in addition to living south of Houston, New Orleans, or St. Augustine (Florida). That little whisp of stars at 4 o'clock just to the right and below center? That's satellite galaxy NGC6744A, similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) near our own Milky Way.
