In an effort to get a little away from the political posts and a little closer to military and strategy, what is your favorite strategy in the game of Risk?
I tend to base in Australia and expand from there.

I think it depends on how you choose to start the game. I prefer the "random card" method as it prevents the obvious securing of Australia and South America for the quick units in the beginning. However, my strategy is always to:
A) Win one battle per turn (so you get your reinforcement card)
B) Take and hold continents that makes sense - Australia, S. America are easy. Africa next, then Europe and N America. Asia is a sinkhole for suckers.
C) Don't get too spread out. Halt your attack when you still have units to defend with.

MAJ Bryan Zeski valid points, sir. Many get sucked into the trap of continuing to push until they only have the minimum units on a territory. And then wonder why they get routed so quickly after pushing so far.

SSgt (Join to see) - So true. I also forgot:
D) Do what you can to keep others from holding those extra-territories - as long as it doesn't jeopardize your assets.
