More: "Out of the Mouth of Seniors:"
Isn't it weird how an older mind works?
So, first Sgt. Knoll posted an album from back when I first joined the Army. So that brought me back to a memory of My Mom, watching the Sound of Music...which she loved.
And that brought back a memory of when I went to Salzburg and sat by the fountain in the movie.
And That ...led to how the mountains are everywhere.
And That ...well, led to how I used to march right off the ship I was on at the time, and straight up hill. And some of those hills...were steep. The first picture is in a fjord in Norway...and you can just see the ship at the bottom. A lovely hike. and if you see the hairpin road on the other side of the fjord...I did that hike too!
Unless Kathy was with me, it was hard to talk anyone else to go uphill. They just wanted the Internet cafe, and to taste the local beer.
And That led me to his real time realization:
I can't physically do any of those hikes now. Nope. My driveway is the biggest hill in my neighborhood....it rises maybe three feet from the street to the steps. And on bad days...well, it is a hike. LOL
But I have the memories. And I think one of the reasons I haven't had a heart attack (yet) is those uphill things I used to do.
And in my mind ...the Hills are Alive...with the Sound Of Music.

SGT Kevin Hughes Beautiful Brother Kevin. I love hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, especially in the fall but I missed last year due to my surgery recovery. I hope to make it this year and make up for lost time and miles on the trail.

And you triggered a memory for me. My folks used to hang out with what you might call "artsy folks." Including the von Trapp kids...though not so much kids then. I've got a CD of their music around here somewhere.

MAJ Ron Peery - Awesome. I meant the Von trap Kids...but, like you, most memories of my Parents were good. Just loosing them was the hard part.

SGT Kevin Hughes - The folks used to travel around the country in a motor home, and annually went to Winnemucca, NV for the art and music festival. Not sure when they started visiting there, but it was probably in the late 1980s. Their friends, Bill and Faye Chappell (Bill was a western artist of some renown) would meet them there. That's where they met the von Trapps. I was always somewhere else, so never had the pleasure of making that trip. But I did acquire a number of Bill's sculptures. And paintings after the folks passed. In 2000 the folks settled down on a ranch in Texas, so no visits to Winnemucca after that. But Bill and Faye lived in Texas, just an hour or two away, so they visited back and forth.
