I don't know why, but Kathy and I got to talking about Honeymoon's at supper. She laughed at ours, because I took her to not one, not two, but three Civil War Battlefields for our Honeymoon. Started at Vicksburg, Mississippi and worked our way over to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
When I said : "Sorry about not being Romantic."
She said:
"It was Romantic Kevin, I still remember you carrying me around on my shoulders on the battlements overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River. I had never been on a Honeymoon, so I did't know any better. Ours was just fine."
My buddy from my time in Germany didn't have the same good time. Because of their Religious upbringing- they were both Virgins. So they were really looking forward to their honeymoon. Their Wedding night he said:
"Nothing happened. We were both so drunk and exhausted we just slept until we had to go to the Airport the next day."
Then we got to Tahiti, and man those were long flights. So we just konked out again.
The next morning we both had Papaya for breakfast. Neither of us had ever had that fruit before. Well, it put us both in the Hospital. Turns out we are allergic to it. As soon as we tasted it, we were in trouble, our mouths burned, we couldn't breathe ...and we got a huge rash and diarrhea.
A few days later ...and we were both feeling pretty good, we were sitting by the beach and my wife said:
"How are you?"
"Doing pretty good. You?"
"Feeling pretty good too."
There was a few moments of silence.
"Well, should we go to the room and get this over with?"
He said he laughed so hard...it made it the most Romantic Question he ever heard.
I said:
"How did it go?"
He beamed at me.
"Well, young bodies, young love, and Nature took over. We didn't leave the room much those last three days."
And the Honeymoon never ended.

Wife and I went to Hawaii for our delayed honeymoon. Her first military hop.....a C-130 from Travis to Hickham. Surprisingly 56 years later we're still married, but no military hops anymore.

We went to the Holiday Inn at Wrightsville Beach, NC for our honeymoon. After our second day we packed up and headed to our apartment in Southampton, VA.
We decide on our 50th anniversary to not have a big to do, but to tour some of the sights and more in the vicinity of Asheville, NC. We toured that region in our third summer of marriage. We had a tent and a Dodge van back then. We used some interesting lodging.
Our timing was impeccable; flooding in that area of NC was not long after we were there.

Glad you missed that flooding. We had friends up there...and they said it was horrible, and they are still fixing stuff!

Oh, and super congrats on making fifty. I am so hoping for that (46 this year) but if I don't stop eating pizza and donuts...all bets are off. LOL

Maj Robert Thornton the NC . Mountain areas are so beautiful. Should I ever get married... chuckle, chuckle, chuckle... south of 50, right... I want to do something that celebrates Senior Romance. This is but a dream. :)
