It isn't about production, it is about storage. We do not have the capability necessary to store enough energy to use green energy effectively. I am all for upping green energy, but it doesn't matter if you can't augment the grid when it is necessary. That was essentially our problem here in TX during the freeze this year. The grid relied on green to provide 10% or so of the energy and when it didn't because they had no capability and no stored energy, then with the coal and gas plants not getting a permit from the feds to increase production, we were in an energy deficit and had blackouts. I will say, they are working on the storage problem, which is good, they just aren't there. There is a pretty good series on Youtube by The Physics Girl that covered this if interested.

Yes this is an unattainable goal been discussed several times by the Utility Industry, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Mark Cuban, etc. We can't even reach 30% any time in this century. So Biden is putting this out there to score points knowing full well it will never happen.

Good discussion. There are many questions that need to be solved in storage before solar and wind energy become the solution, not just in storage, but in infrastructure needed to make it happen. They talk about pipelines screwing up the environment but they refuse to address the issues for solar and wind.

Just one question. Will solar provide half our energy because it becomes more effective, or because they will take everything else off-line to get to that goal?

With apologies to Ned Washington writer of the song "Rawhide" and performed by Ned Laine.

Great take off sir. My personal opinion is once intermittent energy sources reach 50% we will more likely have black outs.

Biden was probably told it was an unattainable goal but decided to make it one anyway because that is what JFK did with the Moon Shot. In reality JFK was told it was possible before he made the commitment.
