Someone reached out to me this morning with a job offer related to my writing skills.

However, the writing he wanted was drastically outside my niche. I write libertarian op-eds, and he wanted podcast notes.

I love podcasts, but this is not the kind of work I do or that I am interested in doing.

I politely declined and suggested an alternative solution to his need. All ended well.

My question for you is, how do you decide when to stick to what you're already doing, and when to step outside your comfort zone to explore new opportunities?

Making the right or wrong decision here could have life-altering consequences.

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA - You might have asked for a trial period of a month or two to see if it worked for you or not... That also would work for the other person to see if what you provide fits into what He or She envisioned... If it works for both, Great! If it does not, you each can go your separate ways with no harm no fowl...

You can ask for a trial term. You try them out for several months and they try you out for several months...if it doesn't work for either of you there is no long term damage. I wouldn't necesarily throw the preverbial baby out with the bath water. See if they are open to that.

Even in your OpEds you could probably transiton your thoughts to a pod cast...another way to get your voice out. Just my two pennies...probably not worth that though.
