I’m headed to Fort Lewis in a couple weeks and I was wondering if anyone had some guidance to pass on about serving as an E5 / 11B? I know it’s a Stryker unit but aside from that, what’s it like on the squad and team level?

Also any general information about the area would be appreciated.

It's been a long time since I was at Fort Lewis, but if you are into hiking, climbing, or skiing there is always something to do. Seattle and Tacoma both have active food and music scenes, and there are many places that are close: Oregon coast, Las Vegas, Eastern Washington/Idaho, and if the border opens again, British Columbia/Vancouver.

I was with the 4/23 Inf Rgmt during one of my deployments to Ft Lewis. (Did 3 tours there). Believe me you want to either attend RIP and go Ranger, or get assigned to 1st SF Grp. All other Infantry units wanted to be like the Rangers but were chicken shit when it came right down to it. But that was back in 1983/4.
