About

Unit mission is to mobilize and deploy to any theater of operations in order to assist in projecting the Corps combat power forward by executing mobility, countermobility, survivability, and general engineering missions in the Corps rear area of operations. On order reinforce divisional engineer units in the Corps close area of operations with survivability and countermobility engineer operations. Designated wartime headquarters may further define the overall mission.

  • Constituted 26 November 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 1252d Engineer Combat Battalion
  • Activated 30 December 1943 at Camp Swift, Texas
  • Inactivated 10 December 1945 at Camp Polk, Louisiana
  • Allotted 6 December 1946 to the Organized Reserves 
  • Activated 17 December 1946 with Headquarters at Wilmington, Delaware
  • (Organized Reserves redesignated 25 March 1948 as the Organized Reserve Corps; redesignated 9 July 1952 as the Army Reserve)
  • Redesignated 16 June 1948 as the 458th Engineer Combat Battalion
  • Reorganized and redesignated 20 July 1953 as the 458th Engineer Battalion
  • (Location of Headquarters changed 1 May 1959 to Johnstown, Pennsylvania)
  • Ordered into active military service 7 December 2003 at Johnstown, Pennsylvania; released from active military service 3 June 2005 and reverted to reserve status
  • (Organic elements inactivated 16 September 2008 at home stations; Support Company concurrently constituted and activated)
