Overcome your bar by being ready to go to and pass the promotion board. Your bar is completely within regulation and within the intent of the bar.

Since you should be an NCO soon, you'll need to learn to research whether something is within regulation or not.
The guidelines on this bar are not within the regulation on bars and reenlistment. This bar is part of the new promotion system and MLI. You can find the guidelines for this bar, the 8K SSD bar, and MLI on the HRC Enlisted Promotions web page under the ALARACT concerning SGT/SSG promotions and another document containing FAQs.
If you have additional questions after you read that, feel free to ask.

New regulation. You have to go to board. If you don't have a flag or valid reason your command has to send you the minute you are eligible. Read the new promotions reg

Since we no longer have career PVT's or SPC's anymore its move up or move out. The Army doesn't have room for or the need to keep troops who don't want to step up and put up. Believe me if you have it in you go to the bard and take on more responsibility with that added authority.

CPL (Join to see) - It is up to each individual Soldier to know when they are eligible, when they are ready and to pester their FLL to put them on the OML for the board. Myself and every one of peers back in the day knew our TIS/TIG and when we were eligible. We prepared long before we were called so that passing the board was just procedural and demonstrating our abilities. Your NCO support chain should have been reviewing the TIS/TIG for all their subordinates as a regular duty anyway. It is a well know fact that NOBODY cares more about your career than you and that should have been your responsibility day one. Good leaders also observe and push you along but in the end its still your personal responsibility. In the past declining a board was a quick way out of the Service, not being ready for a board when you were well into your qualifying period is a sign to your COC that you want to leave anyway.
