Seriously it was politics from the start, not operational needs or requirements. Trump proposed the move to Alabama to punish the blue state of Colorado. Infrastructure and survivability seems to support the decision for it to remain where it is.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen , Well Huntsville was named after John Hunt who had enslaved as many as 77 people, many of them children, including farm and industrial and domestic workers.
Are they going to change Huntsville's name in keeping with name changes Congress directed?

SFC Ralph E Kelley Ah, so John Hunt's slaves learned the beneficial aspects of space operations which made Huntsville the logical choice.
