I had my rentention pull a requisition list of places I can go. My re-enlistment window isn’t open yet so I was going to call and give him the info for where I want to go since I have it readily available for when I’m able to leave. What do I do?

Usually they answer emails more than phone calls. That's my experience.

I emailed my branch manager a year from when my stabilization ended to get an idea of assignments. She flat out told me it was too early to know what the needs of the Army would be in a year.

Unless you reenlist for a specific duty station, you're at the whim of the Army. You can tell your branch manager what you want - and he or she will tell you what the Army has to offer you.

If your reenlistment window isn't even open yet, I'm not sure what branch can tell you that retention didn't already tell you. I would talk to retention and see if you can get duty station of choice.

Oh and when I was going to reenlist in Iraq, I told retention if he couldn't get me Ft Meade, I'm not reenlisting. It took him a couple months but then it came up. I didn't ever talk to branch.

get a doctors letter and fax it to your Branch manager you are in whole different case and the BM should support the hospital and care you need your kids to be around.

SFC William Stephens A. Jr., 3 MSM, JSCM - What are you talking about? My pending assignment to Hood dropped because EFMP disapproved it - twice. The first time it was "due to frequency of care." So I updated her EFMP post transplant. Then when they disapproved it again - I called the EFMP coordinator there. She said the hospital said they can't provide the services she needs...which is odd because everything around Hood could support her. But they wouldn't tell me exactly what said they couldn't. Lewis was the only one to accept her EFMP which is fine. I've been there before. They have good medical facilities. It's fine. I just was trying to be close to home as possible and Hood is closer but it is what it is.

She was saying in August last year when I asked that because I'm EFMP that depends on the base as well as needs of the Army. If EFMP disapproves you're not supposed to be able to be assigned there.

SFC William Stephens A. Jr., 3 MSM, JSCM - There is nothing to be done. I am on orders to JBLM. I'm good with that. I only wanted Hood to be semi closer to home but if they don't have the ability to provide her services, then they don't. JBLM (Lewis) has facilities on base (which Hood doesn't) and Seattle Children's is not far away. It's just farther from family but I will figure that out if I need their help. I also know a few people from the first time I was there who are no longer in and still live there and someone who still works on base.

I'm in a joint unit - no one in my leadership would even know what to do and it's all medical. I talked to the EFMP coordinator at Hood and she said she couldn't tell me the exact reason why the hospital there disapproved but the second time was could not provide the services she needed. So I've moved on. I'm getting ready for Lewis. It's fine.
