"That was the USS Ticonderoga, CVS 14. That was an S-2E from squadron VS-38. If you look at the background seas, they are relatively calm. When the launch officer launches a plane he watches for the bow to hit bottom, and that way the plane will be launched as the bow comes up.

In this case, a ROUGE wave caught the plane and it only happens once in a great while, but once is too many if you are the pilot. They came out of it damp and shaken, but that is a testament to a great engine, the Wright R1820."

Capt Seid Waddell, Two questions:
1.) Did the aviator qual for Dolphins? Or, the SWO pin?
2.) Would the new warfare designator pin be worn below the Gold Wings? Or on the pocket flap?
A-Freakin-Mazing!

Capt Mark Strobl, good questions all, but this AF type has no answers. The AF has no submersible aircraft that ever fly again to the best of my knowledge.

Capt Seid Waddell - Fair enough. I suppose most aircraft only get ONE water landing anyway!

Capt Seid Waddell I do believe that aircrew needed some new skivvies, after that!

SN Greg Wright, it looks like their skivvies got a power wash.

SN Greg Wright, this is the one that has a great deal of pucker factor for me. It makes me appreciate what carrier pilots do on a day to day basis.

WOW and WOW................. I wonder what the pucker factor rating was at for the Air crew going through that? On the flip side they can for the rest of their lives remember "What a Ride".
