Considering we are picking up the Tab for a good deal of their Defense Budget they can afford too.

Also if I'm not mistaken they really do have a "Socialist" Government that makes it easier to do that.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I think they are more socialist for sure. We still have plenty of money on this side of it . I just wonder do we invest in our soldiers sailors outcomes equally, worse, or better then IDF? I keep on meeting former IDF around town, and they all seem to be doing quite well. They do not do tours like American Service Members that I am aware though. The stressors must be different on many levels. and I wonder what their version of VA is like and how many claims the VA in Israel Denies compared to awards? and how long the appeal process is?

No, I don't think. Since basically everybody serves in Israel, it doesn't make sense for the Israeli government to take better care of their service members after service, since that's basically the entire population. Being of "veteran" status doesn't make one that much more special in Israel, since basically everyone is a veteran.

I don't think there is any country in the world that puts so many resources into its veterans as the United States does. The VA budget for 2016 is $167B, whereas the entire budget for the entire Government of Israel in 2016 is only $109B. While Israel is a lot smaller, the VA's budget is simply enormous. If the VA was its own country, it would be the world's 26th largest nation.

The main disfunction is in leadership and bureaucracy, not necessarily in lack of resources.

Thank You for responding. So obviously is there are many major differences between both IDF and Americas Military. Everyone is drafted in Israel Mandatory service men and women from what I understand. America, after Vietnam, is all Volunteer, selling points based on (1)HONOR INTEGRITY COURAGE (2) Improve your countries life and better your own life, and good recruiters selling the system to young men and women as young as 17 and 18 years old, who never 1 day would think they would be left alone injured ill in the streets scared unsure and wondering what happened. Now with the VA budget being so LARGE, equal to the entire state of Israel, then how and why, am I meeting so many VETS out here on the street, me being 1 of them over the course of the last decade, some to drunk to even figure out how to fill out this crazy paper work needed to even get a decision? Does Israel, have a similar VA system? Does Israel, have a state of homeless PTSD former service members confused wandering the street drunk? Or does Israel, welcome home every service member finishing service, and have their back continuously? Does Israel have a Mental Health Stigma in the service and out? I am just a bit miffed by the whole situation. I think, from the outside looking in, Israel has a much better self interest in its own citizens welfare from beginning to end.

It seems to be a far smaller problem for them - their vets come from the general population, serve their tour, and return to the general population, which is very supportive and understanding of military service. They don't seem to have much of a homeless population either - completely different society.

PO3 Aaron Hassay Theyhave a much smaller professional military, relying primarily relying on reservists. It's easier for them to take care of fewer. Besides we subsidize a major portion of their defense expenditures.
