I don't think they should. I find myself surprised that they haven't, simply because historically speaking (Waco, Idaho et al) these situations have gone badly for everyone, but that never seems to stop heavy-handed LEO's.

In this case, they're out in the middle of nowhere, there's little risk of 'civilian' (ie, not an actor) casualties, and to assault them would wind up in fatalities for sure, but just as importantly, create headlines that the government likely doesn't want. Maybe even a ground-swelling of support. They SAY they'll stay there for 'years', but that's not likely.

Do you think LEO's should go in and root them out? Kindly don't turn this thread into a 'if they were of xxxx group, then...' discussion. There's already posted threads about that.

No. I think they should surround the place, cut off the utilities, and wait them out. It will get awfully cold, and they already don't have much food. They won't last long.

LTC Kevin B. That's my take as well. Hopefully they do it right this time.

I agree, however I think their making a huge mistake by not controlling access to the territory the militants are holding.

My impression is that there isn't anything that prevents them from resupplying right now. Their position is not surrounded and no one appears to be preventing anyone from coming or going or even receiving mail at that location.

There is also the risk that allowing the militants to choose the time and place they engage with law enforcement could put law enforcement at a disadvantage. While we don't want to see the situation escalate, we also need to consider the safety of law enforcement in the area.

My understanding is the facility or shack is in the middle of nowhere 30 miles from the closest town. It's a structure that the government doesn't even use. At least they haven't done anything violent like the folks in Ferguson or Baltimore. I think LTC Kevin B. has outlined a very reasonable approach to the situation.

The area is not to far off the F15c/d air combat training ranges and is very remote. I would be surprised if aerial observation was not being used as aircraft are a normal sight and the thermal background cold and steady do that man, machine, or large animal would be readily detected. So if that is what is bring done, the area is under control without contacting the militias. Cutting the power rounds out the steps to controlling the situation. Doesn't help Ammon Bundy's cause that he targeted a fed unmanned and very low value facility so remote as to be laughable.

No. Wait them out; they are harming nobody where they are. Eventually they will get hungry enough to leave.

SN Greg Wright I concur with LTC Kevin B. and SCPO Charles Thomas "Tom" Canterbury the best response would be to cut them off from physical comfort and supplies.
As winter is building up hopefully the cold weather will drive these protesters/wannabe insurrectionists to surrender peacefully.
I remember the riots in the mid 1960's and understand how the residents of southern L.A,. CA developed deep distrust for authorities in part because of the federal/state response to the summer riots there.

No, they don't need to use force. They don't need another Ruby Ridge or Waco. Just wait and set them out.
