Saw this article and find it to be quite interesting. I believe the author is an Obama apologist calling his inaction a "strategy" seems to be a stretch but the basic premise does seem to hold true. What are your thoughts RP?

I don't think that there was anything we or NATO could have done to prevent what happened in Crimea. Of course, had the Ukraine been a member of NATO, none of this would have happened. I see it as a Cold War relic just flexing his muscles while he still can. He may take some more lands in the East, but ultimately, we aren't going to go to war with Russia... and he knows that. Everyone knows that. We spent half a century 'not' going to war with Russia. In fact, it's one of the things we do best.

Russia will be fine regardless of any economic impact it gets from this. History has proven time and time again that the Russians will get through anything... even the Moguls. They overcame them, and have been a country pretty much since then. So, they piss us off and they get sanctioned... it's not going to do anything. I hope we have another Cold War with them. It was economically beneficial to the United States and spurned some of the most amazing scientific advances in the history of mankind. Hell, we went to the moon just because we wanted to be able to do it first. Bring it on!

Chief, let me say you have the ability to link history to current events and bring the scenario 'full circle'... the mark of a true student of history!

CW2 Jonathan Kantor - I believe you meant "spawned" rather than "spurned."

CW2 Jonathan Kantor - Another cold war ... while it MIGHT be good economically, and scientifically, has some inherent dangers. The hazard of either side's leadership and their ego could override "failsafe," safeguards.
Meanwhile, the U.S. economy is at its worst in over 40 years; and the entire world's supply chain (and economies) has been disrupted.
