I have been SFC for a year. I only have leadership time (PSG). I am being told I will be the Brigade MRT after deployment. Should I fight this or just go with it. I'm not sure if it's good for my career progression. Thoughts?

As someone that has done Brigade MRT rep from startup I say its good, but not a broadening assignment. If you translate what you did well on your NCOER board members will see that as going above and beyond your peers. This position is just an additional duty, with talks about making this into full time job. I know starting from scratch it was a complex machine and trying to juggle my job and the MRT job turned into some long nights. Once I got the program up and running and everyone was on board the program was easy to maintain. The Army is putting more efforts into MRT and expanding it. Don't fight the responsibilities once you went to this class you as a Senior NCO should be teaching this to your Soldiers and never back down from this position. If you fight it why have the 8R identifier?

Thanks for your response, it's not a matter of doing the job for me. I am currently serving as the Battalion MRT. I give training regularly and yes it is an additional duty. If they put me into this position in this brigade it will be full time, regardless of what position they have me slotted in. So in that light I was

That would be awesome if they make you the full time MRT guy for the brigade, it really is a full time job and hopefully they start to make MRT billets like EOA does. Me personally I would do the job for two years and swap out with another MRT personnel so they can get some time in and you would be consider branch qualify after 24 months.

I haven't seen it listed on a TDA or MTOE as an actual duty assignment, it's usually an additional duty. Having said that, as long as you perform well in the position and only do it for 1-2 yrs, it could be a career enhancer. Any longer than 2yrs is too long for an additional duty and I would prefer more like 1 yr.

Thanks, although it has been rumored, it has not been added to the TDA for the Special staff in this unit. I may be more interested in the full time MRT if I also had another job to be rated in. If they make me full time MRT then I will be rated whatever slot they put me in but only have MRT stuff on my NCOER. I do not want that.
