This should be fun....DO you have to wear your headgear when driving a convertible?

This includes convertibles, T-tops, jeeps with no cover, etc. Can't wait to see the different answers here.

Only if you are a 2LT. This is so you can properly salute 1LTs that you may pass.

The only problem with the logic though, is that regulation also covers how to salute with no headgear! So rendering a proper salute to anybody, regardless of rank, has nothing to do with wearing headgear.

SGT Richard Hanner, I would have to agree with you. Considering the placement of rank is hard to see while driving. Therefore the headgear should be worn...

Drive my Jeep topless all the time without it. If I were required to wear one while driving it would be sure to blow off and I would be without when I got where I was going.
And here is the portion of the new AR 670-1 that says I don't have to
Para 3-7
"(1) Headgear is not required if it would interfere with the safe operation of military vehicles. Wearing military
headgear is not required while in or on a privately owned vehicle (to include a motorcycle, bicycle, or convertible
automobile), a commercial vehicle, or on public conveyance (such as a subway, train, plane, or bus)."

AR 385-10 Para 11-4.m. Specialty Vehicles
(8) Adequate head protection is required for operators and passengers operating or riding in tactical specialty vehicles and for operators and passengers of nontactical vehicles operated outside of the designated operational work areas.
(a) For Segway HT, the minimum head protection standard for garrison operations is an approved bicycle helmet
I would say if it's a privately owned Segway then no; refer to AR 670-1 Para 3-7.l.(1) "Wearing military headgear is not required while in or on a privately owned vehicle".
