Afca vs 2nd ammend
That's a good one ... especially when I think of how smug Obama was when he made his statement.

It has been my experience that those who rigorously defend the Second Amendment often trounce the First, and vice versa. ... how about supporting all of it?

LCDR Jaron Matlow, I'm sorry to hear that that has been your experience. I think that they go together well.

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA I am glad you feel that way - very few people I know support both amendments...

I know I'm in the minority here but the 2nd Amendment is taken way out of context from what the founders intended. It was intended to provide citizens that were part of a "well regulated militia" (like the current national guard) the right to maintain a weapon. The founding fathers were fans of Greece and Rome which called up citizens to defend the country in time of war, hence the right to bear arms under the second amendment was for the citizenry to protect the Government not vice versa. I support gun ownership with some restrictions but am tired of seeing the second amendment misused.

SFC (Join to see), as with any potentially dangerous tool a person should be trained in how to use it. Though, I’m against training being mandated. There are already laws in place for causing harm due to negligence. If firearms training is mandatory it should be provided free of charge. Those that are in the greatest need of firearms often live in low income areas.

SFC (Join to see) : Don't get me wrong. Overall, I'm against any form of "gun control" other than using two hands, but I can see a requirement for training... however, that requirement should only ensure that a person actually knows how to use a gun, aim a gun, and safe a gun. In no way should it go beyond that unless a person wants additional training, that should be it - and yes, it should be affordable or free, costing no more than it would coast for a driver's license.

One of the biggest issues is that people try to apply today's use of language to things written over 2 hundred years ago.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

You will note that the only thing spoken of being "well regulated" are militias.

Note that in 18th century vernacular, if something was "well regulated" it meant "well functioning. For example, highly accurate clocks of the day, such as those used to set the time of lesser-accurate clocks, were known as "regulators". A component of machinery that keeps a machine operating within correct parameters is known as a "regulator". If your digestive system is working correctly you are said to be "regular". Thus a "well regulated" militia is simply a militia that is functioning in a proper manner.

"Well regulated" did not mean operating under rules and regulations. So, when married with the second section, to keep the militia operating properly, "...the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

If I have to ask the government for permission to do something, that is in infringement. A right needs no permission. Remember, The Bill of Rights is designed to limit the government, not the people.

Thank you PO1 Jeffery Brown! You are absolutely correct. The entire Bill of Rights was to secure the public at large's consent. Being well regulated meant highly functional. But at the end of the day "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

There seems to be a need for affordable care for Americans. Millions of people each year find themselves in need of medical insurance. More and more often these days employers are not offering that benefit. What are hard working honest Americans supposed to do? $500 or $600 per month for a family is unaffordable. That means the need is handled by an overburdened ER system.
