Roughly 6 years ago I decided to give up satellite/cable television. To be honest I got tired of paying for so many channels while only watching 5-10 on a regular basis. At the time I was stationed in Virginia and spent about $40 on a digital TV antenna and have not looked back. I was able to get 12 channels in high definition at no cost.
I found that I wasn't sitting there cruising through the channels all day trying to find something to watch and if nothing was interesting I would find something productive to do around the house. Just curious to see who else decided to give up cable.

Likewise. Shortly after picking up a PS3, I swapped to Streaming services like Hulu & Netflix. For the $20~/month, it has been very much worthwhile compared to cable.

I've debated Amazon Prime, but I can't quite make the jump to it yet. The initial cost is my barrier to entry, however if I ordered more online it would definitely make sense.

I guess I'm just a knuckle-dragging schlub... Have cable and subscriptions to Hulu+ and Netflix. How else am I going to see all the great history and British shows my wife and I love. Never watch anything live - have DVR cable boxes so we can fast forward through the commercials. (Of course, we spent this morning watching the best of the Super Bowl commercials on Hulu+ - go figure)

I have had very good luck with the $19/month military expat service that streams over internet 25 Philadelphia PA HDTV channels including ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC, PBS, My9, A&E, Animal Planet, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, ESPN, FX, Fox News, History, Lifetime, National Geographic, Nickelodeon, Spike, Syfy, TBS, TNT, USA. Sometimes they get overloaded . . . most of the time work just fine . . . at home, office, or wherever I get mobile hotspot up and running . . . like in car.

All that said it may be cheaper to use the account / password from a friend with ATT/etc Cable for streaming.
I share NETFLIX, HULU+, and Amazone PRIME with my daughter for streaming movies and various TV shows.
I have also had very good luck (100+ HDTV channels) using the WA-2605 / WA-2608 HDTV antennas indoors.
But both of these amplified HDTV antennas are directional. I am curious about omnidirectional HDTV antennas.

1LT Sandy Annala I have an amplified omnidirectional HDTV antenna on my RV and have since the big shift to HD form Analog signals. It works great in the RV I have tried some of the non amplified HDTV Antennas at my house and returned them ALL. We live close to only two towers for local TV stations as a result only 2 stations come in at all. I really live out there. With an amplified antenna I Can Get all of the local stations and a couple from distant areas. Unless you live in the middle o f a major metropolitan area, I recommend you use an amplified antenna like the Terk FDTV2A Omni-Directional Amplified Flat Digital HDTV Antenna. This is just one of many available.
Looking at USTV NOW, what a great deal. I have a Vizio Smart TV and just wish I could use this service. However, here in CONUS, Amazon Prime really does a good job for me. Now if I could just get a really good ISP; I Live in an area where my provider thinks they provide 15 MBPS, but Iamlucky to get 6 Mdl and .6 Mul.

Yes you may recommend "Sons of Liberty" CMDCM Gene Treants . It's reasonably accurate and damn fine entertainment. In fact, I think it may be one of the best historical pieces produced since the musical "1776". I wish we still had civics classes in our schools. Both of these would be excellent teaching tools challenging the students to separate the real from the fictional.
