Very interesting article and one that could produce a viable plan for DOD and our service members, if it was reviewed by congress, which will most likely not happen. Salutes to this veteran for looking out for all of us.

CSM Michael Lynch, a very good read and a great idea. How ever might I suggest that this NOT apply to any SM that has already served more than 15 years. I do like the idea of a military 401K that the SM can take with them. The National Guard already makes a retiree wait until they are 55 or 60 to collect their pay but they get their other benefits when the retire.

SFC Attaway, did you retire from active or reserve? I retired from Reserve with almost 8 of them active. BTW how do you highlight names when commenting? Thanks.

SSG Adam Reed, I did 9.5 years active then a 22 year break in service then was in the guard from 07-13. I was on Title 10 orders when I was injured on patrol in 08. It took them from 10-13 to decide to retire me from active duty even though I was guard. As for highlighting a name first copy the name then in the comment section type the @ symbol then paste the persons name.

His article strikes of "parallel thought process." I had suggested in another thread, for each year of service give people 2.5% "contingency pay" (base pay), and then when we need folks we offer up the open slots to them first.

Can you imagine the ability to expand and shrink our roster with folks who already served as opposed to trying to juggle it based on 4 year new enlistments.

I can actually imagine HRC trying to expand and shrink the roster and something that rhymes with Cluster Duck comes instantly to my mind.

The one issue I can see with your thought process is someone remaining true to themselves by staying in Military shape.
The ability to go the distance is important. Aside from that it makes good sense instead of spending a ton on training new personnel all the time.

SSG (Join to see) Keep in mind that 2.5% (10% at 4 years) of E3 is "nothing" (like 150~ a month?) and having a mechanic, admin guy, etc that we can use stateside while we mobilize reserves/NG, and people that are actually fit.
