Cuba no longer a sponsor of terror, time for re-establishment of normalcy with Cuba, do you agree?

Its no longer a hint, the POTUS just notified members of Congress that he will remove Cuba from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. The immediate reprieve I see directly is for the families separated for generations based on governmental ideas and policy.
There is history, some of it bad history involved here and we ought not be caught up in looking at things in a short sighted vision however, when is enough really enough? Is it time to remove them from the list? Are we really willing to let our country be vulnerable to an attack or is the status quo and the way to go?

I think Cuba is ripe for opening relations. The Castro brothers are not going to be around much longer and the time is now to start influencing those who are going to be the future leaders.

@SPC Johnny Velazquez, I'm not saying the the Castro brothers are suddenly trustworthy players. I'm saying that we need to start shaping future relations with the people who are going to take over when the Castros are gone. And starting at that point is a little too late. We need to start building those ties now, so when the Castro regime does finally crumble we will have players in the Cuban leadership that we already have ties to.

I understand, sir. But can we ascertain that the Castro brothers are not preparing some one of their choosing, who will continue to impose their horrendous policies? I would like to see a genuine effort by these two. Blessings.

SPC Johnny Velazquez, PhD, the thing about a lot of communist states are that they are cults of personality. Once that "dear leader" dies, typically that follow on leaders does not hold the same amount of sway as the original leader. So even if they are grooming a protégé, not sure if he is going to have the same force of personality as Fidel or Raul.

Stalin did not groom Krushchev, but their mutual ideology continued to oppress the Russian populace. I get your point, sir, but whoever takes over, will have to adhere to the party's ideology. I do hope you are right, for the sake of the Cuban people.

While I don't care a lick about their cigars. I think the more people experience our true culture and people, the faster their walls come down? Also, I would love to visit before American ruin their resorts.

MSG Brad Sand I agree totally. I would love to go there to look at the old cars they drive. In fact, that is one of the considerations on Cuba's part because they don't have tools to keep them running. One of them said the first thing he would do, is come to America and buy some tools.

The Cuban populace needs a normal life, without fearing reprisals by their leaders. They have been subjugated far too long. As the saying goes, "Let my people go."

It's about leadership in Cuba, let's do what is best for the people. We all have families and while the Cuban leadership has been at odds with our government, it's the people who suffer and pay the price. Having a relationship with Cuban will strengthen our country in the long run.
