I did a search on this issue and found this info: "U.S. Marines presented with the Ranger Tab are not authorized to wear it on their uniforms. U.S. Airmen presented with the Ranger Tab are authorized to wear it on their uniforms due to recent revisions in AFI36-2903 (Dress and Appearance)."

If this is indeed accurate, then it explains why. :)

Exactly CPT Aaron Kletzing. Thanks for the response ... sure beats the "because he's a Marine" answer I was going to post.

CPT Aaron Kletzing hit the nail on the head. It is unauthorized for wear on the Marines uniform. I know back in the day they use to sew it under the pocket flap of their utilities, when they had them pressed you could see the ranger tab indentation.

There are very few Badges we are authorized to wear as Marines compared to the other services. Jump Wings, SCUBA Bubble, Flight Wings, and EOD, and the billet badge (JCS, Presidential/VP, etc) and that's about it. The rest just aren't authorized. It's part of our minimalist approach on our uniform.
