Beausejur
1755 – British captured Fort Beausejour and expelled the Acadians.

The Accadians of Nova Scotia were uprooted by an English governor and forced to leave. Some 10,000 people moved to destinations like Maine and Louisiana. Some moved to Iles-de-la-Madeleine off Quebec. The Longfellow story “Evangeline” is based on this displacement.

Thanks for sharing. One of the unexpected outcomes/benefits was New Orleans being the fascinating city it is.

I remember learning about this whole taking a tour in New Orleans.. I was surprised to hear the NO French were displaced from Nova Scotia.

I also later learned that my Wife's Mother's family was displaced to Boston due to this action.

Dang it! I missed by a day! Also on this day in 1973, 1SG (Join to see), I was commissioned a second lieutenant in the USAR! It's noteworthy only to me, of course, but I just wanted to add to the significance of the day! :)
