There was Elvis, of course. But I believe Major General Jimmy Stewart is the most famous US celebrity to have served in the military. He ended his career in the US Air Force Reserve. Who would you say is the most famous celebrity to have served?

While I agree that Jimmy Stewart & Elvis are the obvious choices, I'm choosing Pat Tillman...U.S. Army Ranger and the epitome of self-sacrifice and honor.

Without question, Audy Murphy because of what he did in combat, that makes him extra special.

I'd pick Audy as the most famous military that served as a celebrity.

Wow, the list is huge.

But I'd have to go with President Reagan.

Clint Eastwood is pretty high on the list, and so is Leonard Nimoy though.

Steve McQueen is a definite contender though.

It depends on what type of 'celebrity', really. Would agree that these days, for being the President *and* an actor of some note, that Reagan would be the guy.

There are a long list of folks, though... trying to think of folks famous 'for/due' to their service and would argue that, on the officer side, any of the Presidents, such as Washington, Grant, Roosevelt, and Eisenhower are up there. Audie Murphy would be my vote for enlisted who made it big 'because' of his amazing military service.

All that said, any member of our service member family is amazing! Of that group, there are many, many definite heroes, who deserve much more of a 'tangible thanks', than they receive.
