I have a report date in the first quarter of the year. I'm trying to get an idea of what work the usual work schedule(I'm aware things may not be set in stone). I'm asking so I can sit down with the mother of my son and discuss a scheduling plan to have shared time between the both of us regarding our son. Does the 82nd work 5 or 6 days a week?8,10 or 12 hours a day? How long is PT usually? Any information you think I should know don't hesitate to reach out. I tried contacting my sponsor but no response. I called a phone number online for the brigade I'm suppose to report to but the phone keeps ringing. If you know of any areas around the base to find a apartment I would appreciate that too. Thanks for everything.

PT ends 7:30/8:00. Work call is 9:00/9:30. Most days end 1600-1730.
The 82nd is a train, it's always on schedule and they already have a set way of doing everything they do. You know exactly what you're going to do because it's the same thing over and over every year. You'll jump into a JOAX several times a year, you'll go to NTC, then you'll deploy, then you'll reset. Then do it all over again.

MAJ Ken Landgren I wouldn't say it's more than any other. They went less than the 7th ID guys at Fort Lewis. Definitely way less than the Army when I joined in the 90s, those guys lived in the field nine months out of the year.

My perspective comes from from being in aviation and armor compared to what I have seen in regard to infantry. SFC (Join to see)

SFC (Join to see) - Division in the 90s was Squad, Platoon and Company ExEvals, then Battalion and Regimental ExEval, NTC, JRTC, DRF-1,2,&3, DRF-9, EDREs and at some point We did Intensified Training Cycle to train up for JRTC and NTC. NOt to mention Heavy Package Week once a month that we may or may not have a exercise attached to and who can forget the endless practice of 82d ABN DIV FSOP Battle Drill 1 A "Movement to Daylight" when you jumped in on a distant Drop Zone, just to walk until sun up, eat chow in the field and then walk back with a Mess Hall Breakfast gut bomb. My last tour of duty in Division was with 1-505 and I did not have an apartment, I had a $500 dollar a month storage unit with air conditioning and internet access. The last year I was in Division before I got hurt we gere in garrison less than 90 days.

Would I do it again...Hell Yah

My experience was usually five days a week, usually 10 hours a day, but overnight stuff was not uncommon. Four day weekends every month of course.

5 days mostly unless you are training, on an airborne mission at the range or in the field and then it’s whenever. PT formation at 05:30 starting and ending at 7:30. Hours vary depending on unit and MOS. Sometimes 8 if you are combat support. Sometimes longer if you are 11 bang bang or other combat arms, but many times it will be back at work at 09 after PT and work until 5 or 5:30 unless you are working in the motor pool late, chute shake for JOAX or airborne ops, on CQ or other longer duty positions. You will get a lot of 4 days and there will be some fun but a lot of suck too, so embrace it. It is what it is and what you make of it.
