I am separating at my eaos and going in to the USNR in about 5 months. My reserve contract is 3 years and in that time I plan to finish my bachelors. After that I would like to come back to active duty as an officer. Id prefer going back in to the navy but I wouldn't mind another branch either. Does anyone know anything about the process or someone who has done the same thing I am trying to do?

Sounds "do-able" enough. I would only say depends on the "needs of the Navy" at the time.

Check for commissioning programs, and things like ROTC while you are pursuing your degree.

Do you already have your A/S or A/A?

PO3 (Join to see) You may want to check with your career planner. They may already have programs you can take advantage of since you are "half way done."

28 is still below the maximum age for the Navy. I would talk to a Navy Officer recruiter but they would treat you like a normal college graduate and send you through OCS. You would be a better candidate then someone without prior enlisted experience and would be treated as prior enlisted O-1E pay ect... Therefore you have a better chance at getting selected also. I would not sweat OCS it is a lot easier than boot-camp. It is like boot-camp but at a resort in Newport RI. Your enlisted time would all count towards retirement also.

LCDR (Join to see) - Honestly, I never thought boot camp was hard. Worst thing for me was the sudden cessation of my Mt. Dew addiction, which resulted in headaches for a week or so lol. But none of the physical stuff was hard.

You could also apply to the two year ROTC program if it is still available but the recruiter would know.
