As I was fixing my own coffee at work this morning, I remember the days when I was the designated coffee maker for the shop, a lot has changed since then.

As the lowest ranking airman, I was NOT allowed to make coffee.

On the other hand, I was allowed (no mandated) to clear up the coffee area.

After a little PT, I aim to start off the week with comedy and of course some coffee.

I didn't drink coffee until much later in my Navy career but now I can't live without it.

When I was a Seaman Recruit on my first ship doing mess cranking duty (KP duty for you Soldiers) I was sometimes charged with making the coffee for the crew even though I didn't drink it. I was finally relieved of coffee duty when enough complaints were lodged against my coffee. Do you think they've figured it out yet that I purposely messed up the coffee?

When I was a PO3 in Guam, a PO1 once tried to order me to make coffee. I said "RM1 with all due respect if I make coffee you'll be on the toilet for the rest of shift."

When I finally did start drinking coffee on a regular basis I was a firm believer in the "you take the last cup you make the next pot" rule. Or I would just make my own coffee because my junior guys liked that fru fru Starbucks crap or they didn't drink coffee.

To this day I like my coffee hot, strong, and black. I usually drink Starbucks (I know, I know) French Roast blend. But, I make my own coffee, I rarely go to a coffee shop.

amazingly in the Bde HQs on drill, as the Jr Full-time NCO, I was too important to make coffee, I knew where everything was, and how to make certain machines work

I love when it is referred to as "Lifer's Juice" in the movie Heartbreak Ridge.
