It's a start! I congratulate them on their hard work and dedication. There will be many more days that are much harder ahead of them. I hope they have what it takes. Good luck to all the candidates, male and female.

I have always supported the initiative to put women in combat MOSs and open up these traditionally male schools to women. IMHO, though, we need to let these things play out w/o the daily color commentary on every step made. Let the program have room to breathe and let these women complete their training w/o the stress of being under the microscope. The more attention we give it, positive or otherwise, the more we make it a spectator sport and the less credibility we give it as a groundbreaking opportunity for women. Again, IMHO, this level of attention gives fuel to the naysayers cause.

Keep on trucking ladies, and power to you!!

Nope, the naysayers will continue. Most won't stop even if all of them complete the course. Many just get past their egos to be supportive of these Soldiers. Sadly, these female Soldiers has significant number of their comrades, brothers and sisters in arms, hoping they fail just so they can they say they were right.

CPT Pedro Meza , I'm not sure I understand the your point. Here's how I've interpreted your statement.
1) that you're naysayer to women being in the Ranger program.
2) Women do well and would do better in another Elite program that specialize in Guerrilla Welfare
3) that the Army shouldn't hold these women to same physical standards as men
Is this a fair interpretation of your comment?

Michael "2) Women do well and would do better in another Elite program that specialize in Guerrilla Welfare" We have such program, and these women are effective, and thanks to the book Ashley" War, the world now knows. http://www.cfr.org/united-states/ashleys-war-untold-story-first-all-female-all-army-team-special-ops-battlefield-cfrs-gayle-tzemach-lemmon/p36459
Michael, Think back to WWII and the opinions towards Black Soldiers, prejudices cloud the minds of men who fail to recognize good Warriors. Research and open your mind Michael.

CPT Meza, women in your CST teams don't have to drag a wounded comrade back hundreds of yards with an enemy shooting at them do they? Sure, women can shoot just as good or better than a man, they can guard your back just as good as a man, but when the SHIT HITS THE FAN, they DO NOT have the physical strength to do what a man can day after day after day. They are BUILT different than a man physically, STOP making excuses why they are just as good as a man in ALL situations, THEY ARE NOT!!

Rangers, let me direct your attention to the "Rock of Woe" (I find it funny that they let them wear rain gear now, oh how those pesky standards change).

I like the discussion, I find it humorous...I found Ranger School humorous too! Yeah it sucked but if it's the hardest thing you have done in your life, you have some surprises in store for you. What's so funny about this discussion is that nobody is pointing out the 78 males that failed...now that's pathetic

CSM, does most units not require male Soldiers to go through RTAC? My XO reports to school in June without RTAC and was begging to go

RTAC is not a requirement to attend Ranger School for males but, I would highly advise attending. The graduation rate is much higher for Soldiers that attend RTAC. Unfortunately most of the time it is hard to get a slot for RTAC, the unit should definitely have some sort of Pre-Ranger program to help Soldiers prepare before attending.

Rgr, we're in an aviation support battalion and he's a logistician. The only pre-req for him was to have a Ranger sponsor to validate his requirements and an APFT at BN and BDE level. For our unit it was a money issue. I just figured Soldiers that are CONUS would have an easier chance of attending RTAC, thanks!

Each unit has there own standards for RTAC attendance, usually it is on whomever is paying the bill.

To those who say that passing the RPFT is not an amazing accomplishment, here's a stat for you: only TEN percent of aspiring Ranger-qualified Soldiers fail due to academic reasons. That encompasses getting a no-go on your patrol and getting peered. 60% fail during RAP, and the RPFT claims the most victims. ("48...48...48...") Don't even think about comparing the APFT to the RPFT. Ranger School slots are at a premium, so the people who fail the RPFT are veritable PT gods at their home units.

I encourage all to read Ashley's War and then judge women in combat.

It's not always about the strongest or the fastest it is not about being male or female at the end of the day it's about heart who has it and who does not. If you have the intestinal fortitude if you have the drive the dedication and the refusal to quit that means more than gender in my book. I attended the Recondi school in 1984 I watch to start with the class of 75 and graduate 30 I attended the battle staff school and watch does a class of 115 reduce itself down to 25. Ranger school is demanding I fully encourage that demand and wish there was a way that they could up the ante just a bit because these people when they complete and earn that tab they are the soldier that others look to for leadership. As I stated at the end of the day it's about heart who has it and who doesn't and I salute those who Complete the school and probably where the tab

Top, you know there are going to be naysayers BECAUSE these candidates are women....even if some of them graduate.

Let's wait until the school is out to start crowing. That way we'll have real live graduates to throw in the sexists' faces.

Very true sir, I meant naysayers in reference to the PT test that most people said that they wouldn't make it past.

Okay, 16 started and 8 are left. How many males started and how many are left? And why are we calling adult human females 'girls'? I was taught that adult human females are 'women', while adult human males are 'men'.

I am not a naysayer but I am Ranger qualified. I would say that they passed the first few hours of Ranger school. That is like saying that you passed an exam and that they should grad college just off that.

Ranger school is tough. The RPFT is the easiest part of it, minus showing up. But I would wait til the end. Let be honest here. These females were well prepared. They went to RTAC. Some units don't really prepare them and just send them. They fail pretty quick. I know a few of them. So I would caution to wait to see what comes of this. I recall with some were excited about the 2 females that passed the first week at the Marine Infantry Officer Course. For the record, out of 29 attempts 0 completed it.

I think tactical patience is a must here.

CPT (Join to see) . Yes, Don't be too quick on the vitory lap is right. We may find out which course is harder as well, Ranger or Marine IOC. We are at zero passes a the Marine IOC to date and I think women Marine officers are the best in the business (all branches). They were ready and as able as you will find in the US Military in my opinion.

I am a naysayer and will be regardless of the outcome. That does not mean I have no respect for women in the military. Some are quick to label you a sexist if you don't accept the premise that women = men and men = women on the battlefield.

I agree mostly with what you say but, the odds are already in favor of a female graduating. I expect to see a couple more wash out (including plenty of males) this week as they tackle Malvesti, Land Nav, the Darby Queen and the long endless walk. Once RAP week is complete the odds significantly increase for any females still hanging tough to graduate...yes mountain phase and all. 78 males and three females failed Day One, that's a fairly close ratio about 4% to 6% respectively.
