Am I the only person that is happy about the new PT uniform?

Don't fix something that isn't broke. The material on the new uniforms is better, but for the cost of transitioning I do not think the change is worth it.
Let's make a PT uniform with a built in reflective belt....and then tell soldiers they still need to wear a reflective belt. Yeah, I'm going to go with fail on that one.

How can you say there is nothing wrong with the old uniforms? No moisture wicking at all as for the shirts, and have you ever pt in snow or rain before? No protection whatsoever from being cold or wet..

This is the fourth APFT uniform in my career, why we try to 'invent' something that is available commercially at a better price and to industry standard is beyond me. The uniform changes have got to stop, its expensive, fielding is a hassle, and we, the Soldier, get stuck at the end of the day. Dumbfounded about why Senior leaders think this is OK.

COL please find a berry act compliant uniform that available commercially made and cheaper. The new apft uniform was based off Soldier feedback and concerns three years ago. It is less expensive in cost than the previous uniform that that was more than 20 years old

I completely agree with you. Regardless if the new uniform is better or the PT belt policy, the old uniform worked. There are going to be pros and cons of every uniform and I personally believe this change has more cons than pros. I now have a dozen old PT uniforms that are useless to me and am forced to buy another new uniform. Yes, the APFU could have been better, but the easiest change would have been to authorize an (optional) mositure wicking version of the same uniform, not create an entirely new one. I remember the survey sent out, but I was never asked if the PT uniform should change, just which of the options on the survey it should be changed too. We recently changed the dress uniform, now the APFU, and this year the ACUs. My pocket book can't take my more and now I have a bunch of old uniforms I have no use for. I also don't understand the color schemes with the IPFU and the ASUs, could we not decide on a set color for army uniforms?

I really don't care what the military makes me wear, I just wish they would quit changing their minds every 4-10 years. As a duel military couple my house already looks like a surplus store and uniform items aren't getting any cheaper.

See my comment about their efforts to recoup the clothing allowance every so many years. To me, that's all it's ever been about.

For the PT uniform, it has been 13 years, I think that's a reasonable period to improve. The commercial products out there are substantially better than our grey/black product. That said, maybe we could have pursued modern materials yet meet the color pattern from 13 years ago and offer as an alternate purchase. With the new APFU, I'm 100% happy with it, but more so the higher-end LS/SS shirts.

The new PT uniforms are better materials, which I like more so that the old. However, couldn't we have just changes the material and kept the grey? Its going to be hot this summer don't you all know global warming or climate change is coming... wait here... wait maybe in 10 years?

I like the look and function of the new APFU, however, it has 9 feet of reflective material. I think it is time to lose the PT belt.

I'm stationed in Alaska Sir and the material to many of us think it's thin. Most must wear silks to stay warm while doing PT outside.

With respect, CSM (Join to see), there is no reflective material incorporated into the new uniform. See Paragraph 6 in the ALARACT that I posted below.

Sir, I swear everybody in the Army has the same opinion about the PT belt. Maybe we should start a moveon.org petition... ;)

New SMA is supposed to be looking at soldier's concerns. I know he is revisiting the tattoo policy; maybe there needs to be some major pushback regarding the PT belts as well.

When I enlisted in 1987 (Ancient times LOL) CIF gave us the banana shorts and white tube socks with gold stripes. We wore out brown t-shirts and tennis shoes (not boots). My first unit at Ft. Reilly had us buy unit t-shirts for Fridays and organizational runs (my 1SG had us buy all kinds of things - so you could never have money to spend). I hated the shorts. When saw the draft uniform with gold shirt I was like WTF?
I do like it.
I've been retired a couple of years and still have my PFU. I like the black and gold and might get one one for when I get my fat retired ass off the couch LOL

I enlisted in 1979 and it was fatigues for us. I remember the banana suits also. They were dreadful! LOL!
I always preferred the fatigues over a PT uniform. I don't recall a workout uniform making anything better.

I started basic in the summer of 87. We had the yellow PT uniform. Shifted to gray pretty early in my first unit, the 101st.

MAJ Keira Brennan, I enlisted on 9AUG69. THOSE are ancient times! PT uniform in the summer was OD cotton pants, boots and a white T shirt (outer shirt removed). In the winter, we simply untucked the shirt. The photo is of me at BCT doing PT at Fort Jackson in the winter of '69/'70.

When I enlisted in 1973, I entered as a WAC (before the WAC was abolished and integration took place in 1975.) I wouldn't expect anyone to believe this, but our PT uniform in Basic Training at Ft. McClellan was a light green garrison cap, a light blue short sleeved button-up shirt, light blue baggy shorts gathered at the leg bottoms and called "bloomers" with black anklet socks and white tennis-shoes. It looked awful! Who makes a uniform mixing blue/green/black/white? We were all so glad that the WACs were abolished at that time.

Are they actually Yellow on Black?
I know I'm just a former Sgt from the Marines, but did anyone point out that people run in the #%^#^% dark, and a little bit of reflective coloring on a BLACK uniform is just asking to get ran over at 0600.
This looks like a huge Safety Standdown waiting to happen on every base in the country.

I don't think that the V is reflective on the new one either...it doesn't seem to be. (I'll double check).
And "whee"...reflective belts. That doesn't do much for increasing visibility. The big reflective letters are GREAT!!!!!

CPT (Join to see) agree, they don't do much, but something is better than nothing. I treat them like I do the little reflective dots in the middle of the road. They aren't very big, but man they do help on a rainy day.
