"American Allies: America has allies on all inhabited continents. Some of the allies go back to our founding and others are more recent. What is the general consensus of RP on who America's best ally is? In my view, America's oldest ally would be the French (they helped us secure our independence from the British), but I think except during the Revolutionary War, the British have proved themselves to be our best and most kindred ally. So here is the question. Between the handful of allied nations listed below, which one would you pick as our best ally?"

Although it seems that culturally we are most similar to the Canadians, I think that Great Britain has proven to be our best ally. From a military perspective, I can think of two things off the top of my head that shows what a unique relationship we have. I don't think we would do the following for another country:
1.) The U.S.S. Winston Churchill - The name itself says a lot, but she also flies the British White Ensign along side our own, and has a British military officer permanently assigned to her.
2.) Great Britain awarded our unknown soldier from WWI the Victoria Cross, and in turn we awarded theirs the CMH.

British, Canada, and Aussies are all good. Germany has historically been pretty good, but the young generation wants us OUT. Israel has good fighters. I think some of our best support comes from the Brits tho....

Definitely agree on the Brits. Some deride them as our "lap dogs" but we have no better ally in my opinion.

This is one of those questions that requires some explanation. If the question doesn't provide the criteria for responding, the response should include it...
I voted Israel.
Why?
Of all of them, they're the only one that can be counted on to fight effectively (assuming that you want allies that you can trust in a fight)
Of all of them, they're the only one that can be counted on to stand by US in debate, even though we frequently abandon them (at least during this Administration). Look at the voting records in the UN.
Once upon a time I would have responded differently and voted for the British. Sadly, their fighting spirit has diminished and even if they had the will to fight, they have little left to fight with. In fact, I can't imagine why Argentina doesn't press its case to retake the Falklands now. Great Britain has little armed force with which to respond now and I doubt they would be willing to use a nuclear weapon in that event.

Some good points. Fighting spirit aside though the British have been solidly on our side in mostly all our wars. Very few allied nations have invested as much blood on treasure towards our shared interests.

Ha, Sir I assume they included the Russians because of WWII. As for the Chinese? Boxer rebellion?? no idea on that one. Those two are safely in the 'competitor trending enemy' category I think.
